Hot Lime Mortars were commonly used in the past. When quicklime, sand & water are combined, they produce heat with the resulting mortar being very hot.
Properly mixed, it attains a stiff but plastic consistency due to low water content. This results in less shrinkage & enables the mortar to be compressed efficiently into place. Ideally suited for sandstone & old brickwork.
